Biography :
Henning Koppel (1918–1981) was one of Denmark’s most prominent designers and played a key role in shaping modern Danish design. He is especially known for his long-standing collaboration with Georg Jensen, which began in 1945 after he returned from exile in Sweden during World War II.
At Georg Jensen, Koppel created a series of iconic silver pieces characterized by organic shapes and sculptural simplicity. One of his most famous designs is the Caravel cutlery (1957), named after the old sailing ships that inspired its flowing, wave-like forms. The cutlery quickly became a symbol of functional elegance and is still in production today.
Koppel’s work for Georg Jensen was groundbreaking and helped establish Danish design on the international stage in the mid-20th century.
